Born to a family of sailmakers in Scotland, our founder, William J. Mills, settled in Greenport, NY on the North Fork of Long Island. The area, known for it’s impressive whaling and oyster fleets, was in need of a master sailmaker and thus William J. Mills & Company was born.
With the introduction of steam and gasoline powered engines at the turn of the 20th Century, William J Mills recognized that the days of a commercial fleet powered by sails were short lived. While maintaining its sailmaking roots with sail fabrication for small sailing yachts, the business diversified its services by fabricating awnings and other canvas products for homes and businesses as well as custom marine canvas products.

Pellegrini Vineyards
Bob and Joyce Pellegrini were one of the original pioneers in the Long Island wine community. After partnering in a small vineyard in the 80’s, they quickly realized the potential of the North Fork region. In 1991, the Pellegrini’s purchased their own vineyard and built a 14,000 square foot winery complex that was one of the very first wineries that integrated the entire winemaking process. After a year of planning, Bob, a NYC based graphic designer worked side by side with builders to create an architecturally striking two-story tasting room bolstered by oak posts and hand-hewn beams. A trellised walkway connects it to the spacious and modern production facility where visitors can watch the wine making process. Over 40 years ago, Bill and Dolores Kreitsek opened Suffolk Designer Lighting ("SDL") in Riverhead, New York. At that time, SDL catered mainly to local electricians and homeowners.
In 1974, SDL moved to a new facility on East Main Street in Riverhead. While on East Main Street, SDL grew its electrical and lighting business, selling to a wide array of customers on both Forks of Long Island and Western Suffolk County. In 1985, SDL opened its store in Southampton, the location where SDL still operates. Over the past 23 years, SDL has continued to grow, but remains a closely held family business that emphasizes its relationships with its customers.
For over 40 years, SDL has been a leader in illumination. Today, the business serves the entire East Coast from its home in Southampton. SDL stocks hundreds of fixtures from more than 450 manufacturers in newly renovated 8000 square foot showroom. In addition, SDL carries various home accessories and decorating items to supplement our customers' lighting needs.
SDL's knowledgeable staff works closely with architects, designers, decorators, builders and electricians to meet all of our customers' needs. SDL specializes in high end custom homes, restaurants, and country clubs. Our consultants have over 100 years of experience, bringing you the best in layout design for both interior and exterior spaces of any kind.
SDL is the source for all of your residential and commercial lighting and accessory needs. Visit our showroom on County Road 39A in Southampton, New York. We are open six days a week (closed Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All major credit cards are accepted.

At Pindar Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. And that dream has, over 35 years, turned Pindar Vineyards into Long Island’s best-known wine producer.
Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos was a visionary. He saw what could be on Long Island when he planted the first vines and decided to make wine. Dr. Dan was also a compassionate doctor. He truly cared about each person he cared for in his practice. Last but certainly not least, he was a beloved family man. His family was his world. His traditions are carried on daily at the winery, in the tasting room and within our family.
Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 500 scenic acres. We grow 17 varieties of grapes, crafting them into some 23 varietals and proprietary blends. We produce 70,000 cases of wine a year, making us the largest vineyard on Long Island. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. The winery continues to be owned and operated by the Damianos family. It is run by Pindar Damianos, Alexander Damianos and Alethea Damianos-Conroy.

We also honor and remember JasonDamianos, a man filled with fierce passion for his work, overwhelming kindness for family and friends, and a dedication to his community. His winemaking expertise is continued on in his Jason’s Vineyard wine labels and at his tasting room in Jamesport.

Estelle Alexander was born 1910, married to Jack Alexander, and had one child, Leslie Alexander. Estelle went by Evelyn. She was an artist and a great singer and always loved animals. In response to a generous endowment presented to the Wildlife Rescue Center by Mr. Leslie Alexander in early 2011, the Wildlife Rescue Center became the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center in honor of Mr. Alexander's mother.
The Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center depends upon volunteers for a wide variety of tasks, and because the animals here depend on us for their very existence, we do ask for a serious commitment from our volunteers.
