Wine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul.
At Pindar Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. And that dream has, over 35 years, turned Pindar Vineyards into Long Island’s best-known wine producer.
Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos was a visionary. He saw what could be on Long Island when he planted the first vines and decided to make wine. Dr. Dan was also a compassionate doctor. He truly cared about each person he cared for in his practice. Last but certainly not least, he was a beloved family man. His family was his world. His traditions are carried on daily at the winery, in the tasting room and within our family.
Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 500 scenic acres. We grow 17 varieties of grapes, crafting them into some 23 varietals and proprietary blends. We produce 70,000 cases of wine a year, making us the largest vineyard on Long Island. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. The winery continues to be owned and operated by the Damianos family. It is run by Pindar Damianos, Alexander Damianos and Alethea Damianos-Conroy.
You can find our flagship winery on the North Fork of Long Island, in Peconic. Also, please join us at our Port Jefferson location, where we have a full tasting bar and wine shop.
We also honor and remember JasonDamianos, a man filled with fierce passion for his work, overwhelming kindness for family and friends, and a dedication to his community. His winemaking expertise is continued on in his Jason’s Vineyard wine labels and at his tasting room in Jamesport.
Wine selection is very good. Outdoor seating is wonderful. Staff is friendly and engaging. Our church goes every year and we have a great time sipping, socializing and taking photos. We also stock up on what we like to drink.
I want to thank Pindar Vineyards and all their employees for allowing to have the East End Hospice Pig Roast each year. Its an amazing much needed event fundraiser. To those who missed this year its the first Saturday in June. Great Pindar wine and locally prepared food...awesome pork freshly cooked. Followed by dancing and dessert. All for a great cause at a great location.
If you love wine, day-drinking, and chill awesome people, you definitely have to plan a day out in Pindar Vineyards!
AMBIANCE:
Pindar has a very relaxed welcoming vibe, right from the minute you walk in. (Beware of the cats on the front porch, if you're allergic, but they don't approach people anyways.) On some days, they have live music, which adds a nice buzz to the air! They have a few tables inside, but if you want to snag one, the earlier you get there, the better. I do however, prefer to chill directly at the tasting bar, but please note that there is no seating available at the tasting bar. They also have a private tasting room, but I cannot comment on it as I have never used it.SERVICE:
I have been here several times, and have never ever been disappointed. You are greeted with a smile from the moment you walk in, and all of the associates are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I definitely learn something new every time I go there. I highly recommend participating in one of their special events if you have the chance. I personally have taken the Champagne Tour and the Barrel Tasting Tour, and most recently enjoyed their Pairing w/ North Fork Doughnut Co, and definitely look forward to trying out more!FOOD:
For most of the year, there really isn't any. They do have crackers and cheese for purchase, but ideally, you should probably eat before you arrive. In the summer however, they do have food trucks, so you can simply check their website for the schedule. Additionally, you can pack yourself an awesome picnic and bring it, so long as you eat outside (not inside the main tasting room). There is plenty of seating outside on their patio, complete with umbrellas for cool shade. Just be aware that if you're there on a day that is slightly more on the windy side, they may not allow you to open the umbrellas due to safety reasons. There is also additional seating in the "backyard".WINE RECS:
Rosé: Summer Blush, Red: Isabella, White: Viognier (But all of their wines are amazing, to be honest!)NOTES:
There is ample additional parking on the side/back. Don't feel discouraged if the front looks full upon arrival. The bathrooms are "outside" (in a separate stand-alone building, assuming you aren't already outside).
Our group attended the barrel tasting tour today led by "Jim" , we have done similar activities in France and Italy, this tour was excellent and done in a relaxed atmosphere with an informative yet casual manner. Jim made us feel at home and did I forget to mention great wine and for the first time we tasted wine in different stages of readiness which was an interesting experience, I highly recommend both the barrel tasting at Pindar Vineyards and the wine as well
Stopped in for the Spring Tasting, from the moment we arrived we felt like we were home, welcomed like family by Gina and everyone else, Stacy was outstanding as well! So our group enjoyed the Spring collection as a whole and the 19 Pythagoras was by far my favorite red, I have been to multiple vineyards in the area and Pindar Vineyards remains my favorite for great wine, ambiance, customer service and an overall great time !
