We have been growing and selling grapes on Long Island’s North Fork since the mid 1990s in the hamlet of Cutchogue, where we have our family home. Russ McCall planted our first vineyard knowing he would wait until the vines were mature and time was right to release his first wines. He wasn’t interested in putting our family name on a bottle unless it was worthy. 2007 was the vintage we found to be our jumping off point. Since then we have followed a model of winemaking focused on getting consistent results. Quality begins with farming. Our sustainable, low-yield vineyard practices allow our winemaker to work with only the finest grapes, the foundation of any distinguished wine. [read more]
View ProfileNinety acres of vinifera grapes grow under the watchful eye of the soaring Osprey, our vineyard’s namesake. Our state-of-the-art winery shows our commitment to fine winemaking. Our first vines were planted on 24 acres in Peconic in 1983. An additional 16 acre parcel in Mattituck was purchased and planted in the late 1980’s, but it wasn’t until the early 90’s, when we purchases 50 acres of land and buildings at our present Main road location in Peconic, that we began producing and selling the Osprey brand. In 2012, our entire Richmond Creek second label was introduced to compliment the Osprey line. Although the Long Island wine region is located at approximately the same latitude as the great wine growing regions of France, at Osprey’s Dominion we truly believe our location (being surrounded, yet sheltered, by both the LI Sound and Peconic Bay) and the complexity of the farming soil here, contribute significantly to the quality and character of our grapes, and hence, our wines. Our overall philosophy is to produce the best wines with the least interference from humankind. We believe that our unique location, soil complexity and Mother Nature give us something different to work with each year, and it is our job and vocation to develop what we’ve been given, into the very best it can be. Our ‘Reserve’ wines are produced only in those years where the right conditions of sun and rain can give us what we need to make a truly great wine. We create our wines to please the most discerning palates. [read more]
View ProfileBob and Joyce Pellegrini were one of the original pioneers in the Long Island wine community. After partnering in a small vineyard in the 80’s, they quickly realized the potential of the North Fork region. In 1991, the Pellegrini’s purchased their own vineyard and built a 14,000 square foot winery complex that was one of the very first wineries that integrated the entire winemaking process. After a year of planning, Bob, a NYC based graphic designer worked side by side with builders to create an architecturally striking two-story tasting room bolstered by oak posts and hand-hewn beams. A trellised walkway connects it to the spacious and modern production facility where visitors can watch the wine making process. Upstairs is a private tasting area with spectacular panoramic views of the winery’s centerpiece, its courtyard which features a classic Italian cloister design. This state-of-the-art facility combines the best of modern winemaking technology yet honors Bob’s design passion for Old World traditions. [read more]
View ProfileWine has enchanted poets for centuries, and for good reason: like poetry, good wine can be an emotional experience, lifting the spirit and delighting the senses as it satisfies the soul. At Pindar Vineyards, our award-winning wines are quite literally dreams come true. It was the dream of our founder Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos that helped create the winemaking industry on Long Island in the early 1980’s. And that dream has, over 35 years, turned Pindar Vineyards into Long Island’s best-known wine producer. Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos was a visionary. He saw what could be on Long Island when he planted the first vines and decided to make wine. Dr. Dan was also a compassionate doctor. He truly cared about each person he cared for in his practice. Last but certainly not least, he was a beloved family man. His family was his world. His traditions are carried on daily at the winery, in the tasting room and within our family. Pindar Vineyards encompasses more than 500 scenic acres. We grow 17 varieties of grapes, crafting them into some 23 varietals and proprietary blends. We produce 70,000 cases of wine a year, making us the largest vineyard on Long Island. But at heart we are still a family with a personal touch in every aspect of our business. The winery continues to be owned and operated by the Damianos family. It is run by Pindar Damianos, Alexander Damianos and Alethea Damianos-Conroy. You can find our flagship winery on the North Fork of Long Island, in Peconic. Also, please join us at our Port Jefferson location, where we have a full tasting bar and wine shop. We also honor and remember JasonDamianos, a man filled with fierce passion for his work, overwhelming kindness for family and friends, and a dedication to his community. His winemaking expertise is continued on in his Jason’s Vineyard wine labels and at his tasting room in Jamesport. [read more]
